MEDICAL
At the heart of the local medical community, Craven Regional Medical Authority offers an impressive array of services incorporating the latest in medical technology.

Over 140 physicians representing nearly all medical specialties are supported by 1400 professional and ancillary personnel at the 314 bed, acute care facility. Centers of excellence are comprehensive cardiac care including surgery, state-of-the-art cancer treatment and rehabilitation at the 20 bed Coastal Rehabilitation Center. Outpatient needs are met at two freestanding facilities: Craven Outpatient Surgery Center and New Bern Diagnostic Center. Residents of western Craven County enjoy quality health care services at the Vanceboro Medical Center; also a part of Craven Regional Medical Authority. The Medical Authority Board of Commissioners and Administration remain committed to providing quality health care to the growing coastal Carolina region.

The Naval Hospital at MCAS Cherry Point offers comprehensive medical services to active and retired military personnel and their dependents. The Naval Hospital has 24 licensed beds and 70 physicians (including contracted) on staff.

NEW BERN/CRAVEN COUNTY TAXES North Carolina assesses a state income tax. Graduated income taxes range up to eight percent of net income. The local property tax rates are $.57(county) and $.47(city) per $100 valuation, plus $.18 in the designated downtown area. There is a six- percent sales tax on all goods except staple foods, which there is a four- percent tax on in North Carolina.
